Wedding Trends in Canada

Weddingbells’ Annual Reader Survey reveals the most recent wedding-day facts and trends from Canadian brides prepping to walk down the aisle.

The current economic situation hasn't put a damper on your wedding plans. According to our annual Weddingbells' Reader Survey, the average expected cost of the big day is increasing in 2009.

Over 1,300 of you responded, from Vancouver to St. John's, revealing your thoughts on everything from honeymoons to where he popped the question. Here is a snapshot of some of the results.

(The Weddingbells’ Reader Survey was conducted online from January 24 to February 16, 2009 by Nooro Online Inc. A national sample of 1,344 engaged readers participated in the survey. Confidence interval: +/-2.7%, 19 times out of 20.)

Popping the question

  • 48% of grooms asked permission from the father of the bride
  • 59% of grooms got down on one knee
  • 89% of brides received a ring; 28% of couples picked it out together
  • 21% of engagements took place in December (top month)
  • Average length of engagement is 18 months

Here comes the bride

  • Average age of engaged woman is 29.5
  • 75% of couples already live together before getting married
  • 89% of grooms won’t see the wedding dress until the big day
  • 91% of brides have no qualms about sex before marriage
  • 52% of weddings will occur between July and September
  • 7% of couples are planning on doing a destination wedding
  • 67% of brides will try and use eco-friendly products and services on their wedding day
  • Average wedding size is 140
  • Expected cost of a wedding is $19,274 (up from $17,300 in 2007 and $19,038 in 2008)
  • Budget breakdown based on anticipated costs:
    • Reception venue = $7,282
    • Bridal gown = $1,083
    • Wedding bands = $1,557
    • Photographer = $1,682
    • Wedding cake = $335
    • Florist/Decor = $881
    • Transportation/Limo = $569
    • DJ/Musicians = $805
    • Honeymoon = $3,632

Something old, something new, something...

  • 46% of couples foot the bill with their savings, 16% take out loans, 32% rely on family contributions
  • 32% find wedding planning to be more stressful than enjoyable
  • 36% anticipate having disagreements with their in-laws
  • 69% of brides plan to take their fiancĂ©'s last name
  • 41% think there is nothing wrong with returning a wedding gift for cash
  • 22% say a prenup is the way to go
  • 75% think their future spouse does his fair share of domestic duties
  • 19% have more disagreements with their fiancĂ© since becoming engaged; yet 55% say passion is up
  • 22% admit they are not completely over their ex

The Pink Bedroom Party

Impression Events were honored to be part of the Sixth Annual Pink Bedroom Party which was held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Berkeley Church on 315 Queen Street East.The Pink Bedroom Party is designed to raise money and awareness for a worthy cause in a fun way. The attendees got to enjoy complimentary drinks, Hors d'oeuvres inspired by David Rocco's Dolce Vita, Silent and Live auctions, Utb Untouchable Lingerie and Jeanne Lottie handbags fashion show.

Maxwell's Concert After Party @ Maro

Maxwell had a concert at the ACC on September 25, 2009 and Impression Events were invited to attend the Maxwell's after concert party at Maro that night. Maxwell is an American R&B artist that has the voice of an angel and we were thrilled to be a part of his after party.

FastLane Networking Event @ Proof Bar

On September 22, 2009, I joined a group of professionals at the Proof Bar on Bloor in a networking event. The theme to this month's Fastlane Networking Event was 'Fashion' and the room was filled with people from all business class. They had mini appetizers that were to die for and booths were set up to showcase items used or needed for a professional business look. Our booth showcased our in house hair and makeup services.

May Nguyen was our makeup artist for the night and I helped out with hair. Our station was a big hit! The ladies from the event all came over to get some neat tips in makeup application and hairstyling. They also had a bowtie booth where they showed the gents and ladies how to tie a bowtie. I even got a hand at trying it out, not as hard as I thought. It was definitely an experience! Wonder if I will ever have to tie a bowtie for a wedding? And they also had a booth that featured gem bra straps so instead of wearing the infamous clear straps that *no one's* suppose to see, you can have nice straps with gems which goes well with any outfit and the most important thing is they don't hurt!

Fastlane also featured a speed network session much like speed dating. Professionals had 5 minutes to get to know the other person's business and a little about each other.

The night ended with a draw for the door prizes. Our prize for the evening was a free admission to our beauty charity event happening on October 30th. Want to know more about our event? Stay tuned for details. It will be in our upcoming blog entry.

Grand Opening of Home Night Club and Lisa Marie Chen's Pre Pink Bedroom Birthday Party

September 18, 2009 marks the Grand Opening of Home Night Club and Lisa Marie Chen's Pre Pink Bedroom Birthday Party. HookMeUp.TO was the one behind this great night and they invited Impression Events to witness this fun event! Great music, Great crowd! I would definitely recommend the party goers to check out the place on Fridays. You won't be disappointed! Below are pictures taken from the night.

More Services To Make Your Event A Success!

How was your summer?! It's been awhile since we've blogged and I thought we would come back with a BANG! It has been hectic around here and a lot has happened at Impression Events. In addition to our event planning and event rentals, we now offer even more services to make your event a success! We have added Yummy Asian Cuisine Catering, Professional Make-Up Artists and Hairstylists to our roster, Delicious Cakes and Other Baked Goods and last but not least Amazing Photographers and Videographers to capture all those special moments in your life. But that's not all! We will be adding even more great in-house services in the very near future so check back with us soon!

I would also like to add that we will be taking a spin on our blog. Not only will we blog about events that we will be offering or events that we have worked on but we will cover all the great events happening around the GTA and we will blog about new products or interesting items to make your events pop! New Additional Services @ Impression Events!

Throughout the next few weeks, we'll be adding more services within Impression Events. I couldn't wait to share the news so I thought I start off by telling you the first thing on our list - We have added party rentals to our services!

We now offer Bouncy Castles, Inflatable Sport Palaces, Popcorn Machines and Cotton Candy machines. They are a great addition to any event and will keep the kids busy for hours at a ceremony or reception. We can also provide a trained staff to stay so the adults can enjoy the event without having to worry about the wee ones.
